My Star Trek: The Next Generation spec scripts!

I just got my “WordStar to text” converter program working (which I’ll post here when complete) and the first thing I converted — the spec script I wrote for ST:TNG nearly 20 years ago! I actually submitted this story for consideration. The original has a nice “REJECTED” stamp on it.  It’s awesome!

I’ve posted two version of my story, “Life In Common” — one that’s raw text, and one compatible with Word 2003 or later. (The Word doc is easier to read and print. I recommend using that version unless you have no other choice.)

Click here to download the raw text file.

Click here to download the Word 2003 file.

Let me know what you think!

And look for another story coming very soon! I think the second story (working title: “Guardian of Tomorrow”) is better than this one, but its unfinished.

Clair de Lune

Please forgive the quality of this recording — I was my first attempt at recording my electric piano onto my laptop connecting a headphone out to a mic in (I know, I know!)

Also, since the keyboard has only one output, I had to use a splitter, so I could barely hear the notes I was playing. (Notes got a little jumbled in the middle) But all in all, I’m happy with this particular run though. (I think on take 12 or 13 or so.)

Timers!

I developed a little app that mimics a program I once had on my Palm Pilot.  It had four pages with 10 separate stopwatches.  Each stopwatch could be assigned a label so you could keep track of up to 40 project times.

I call my app Timers, and it has built-in functionality for logging your daily times and exporting them into Excel. There are many configurable options and a full built-in help.

Awesome music tool!

[EDIT: This tool doesn’t work like it used to. 😦 You can’t copy/paste songs into it the way you once could. Oh well. Still very fun and cool, though.]

First, go to this site:

http://lab.andre-michelle.com/tonematrix

Then play a while, then come back.

It’s fun, isn’t it?  What you may not know is, you can COPY / PASTE to and from the music grid.  I’ve written a song on it and copied each screen of notes into a line of data here. (Each line of data represents one screen of notes on the tone matrix.)

HOW TO LISTEN TO MY SONG:  Copy/paste my massive list of numbers here into a text editor (Notepad on Windows works well.)  Then bring up the tone matrix on the same screen as the text editor with my song in it.  Copy ONE LINE OF NUMBERS AT A TIME and paste them into the tone matrix.  Let it play for 4 repetitions, then paste the next line of numbers until you run out.  YOU get to make my piece your own.. let each line play 8 times if you like it, or cut it off after just a couple of loops if you want.  Have fun!

Market Maker!

At long last, after two years of research and development, I have my Market Maker game in a state worth releasing. Mind you, it is no where near perfect, but it is very playable with very few known issues.

I have decided not to open the source code, but I am allowing anyone to play it for free if they register. To register, follow the directions in the game. (You send a single email and receive an unlock file.) Otherwise, unregistered copies will run for 20 minutes before shutting down.

Click here to download Market Maker

All you need to do is run the EXE. It is a very clean install.  It does not touch the registry, or any other folder other than its own. (It does add icons if you want, but they are cleanly removed on uninstall.)

BE SURE to read the help file under Help / Instructions. Also, please send all correspondence to the email mentioned in the game. Thanks!

Multiplication drill sheet in Excel, plus an update to FlashCards

I have created an Excel 2003 file that will automatically create multiplication drill sheets for your class, or for your child to practice. The file is very easy to use and includes an answer key with each drill sheet created. Each drill sheet/answer key pair has a serial number so you can create multiple sheet sets. I hope you find it useful.
Click here to download the zip file.

I’ve also updated the FlashCards program to version 1.1.  My oldest daughter was being challenged remembering the 6-9 range of her multiplication problems, so (on her request) I added that range of multipliers. So now, when you’re practicing your 4’s, you can just have the problems 6×4, 7×4, 8×4 and 9×4 presented. The installer program will automatically overwrite any existing version you may have installed previously.

FlashCards

Here’s a tiny little program that simulates multiplication flash cards.  You pick which part of the multiplication table to study, and the program gives random problems,  followed by the answer.

There are built-in instructions and contact information.  Download the installer by clicking here. Save the .exe file, then run it.  It will install the program and give you the option to include desktop and start menu icons.

I pride myself on clean and well-tested installs.  This program will NOT touch your registry, and it comes with an uninstaller which cleanly removes all traces of itself.  I have not, however, tested it in Vista, it has been tested only on XP.  I will post an update if I can find a test machine.

UPDATE: I did, in fact find a machine with Windows 7 on it.  It tested beautifully, both on the install and uninstall.  I will make the leap of faith and say you should be good on Windows Vista as well.  Let me know if you have trouble.

Welcome!

Thanks for visiting! As a developer in my off-hours, I have a number of programs to post here, and I will be putting them up from time to time, so I invite you to swing by every so often to see what I’ve been up to.

The first couple of offerings are for my daughter’s school. A little program that simulates multiplication flash cards, and and Excel spreadsheet that creates multiplication drill sheets complete with answer keys.

PLEASE feel free to leave comments. Even if you have some constructive suggestions, let me know.  How else can I improve my skills?

Also, don’t be surprised if you also see an occasional fictional story, political opinion or random thought.
